ABOUT PVC RESIN
If at this point, you still do not know what PVC resin is and what it is for, this might be a useful read for you. This is because unknown to you, this compound/ material has been existing for quite a while and it can be found on several things that you use and practically see every day.
Now if that “introduction” got your interest, then read on as we give you more information about it.
PVC resin is….
If you want to be technical about it, the acronym actually stands for polyvinyl chloride. It is commonly used as an ingredient for manufacturing plastic and some types of rubber. Among the other types of vinyl available in the market today, PVC resin is preferred by a lot of manufacturers because it is versatile – it can work well with additives to produce the thinnest types of plastic to the most rigid/ sturdy ones. They can also be melted down and reformed, which makes them more practical to use.
PVC resin can be used for….
Well basically a lot of things! As mentioned, they can be used in the production/ manufacturing of the plastic bags that we use, pipes, plastic furniture and recently it is becoming big in the construction scene. Window panes, door frames, cabinets and some shelves from the newer homes are made now made from PVC. Some homeowners prefer substituting wood and metal with it because of the following reasons:
- In terms of weight, it is relatively light. This means that you basically do not have to haul your shower door for it to open to close.
- Panes or frames made from PVC resin is in a way more durable than metal or wood. This is because the material is less susceptible to water and/ or humidity that would otherwise make regular metal rust or wood rot.
- They look better. They can be engraved with different designs, and given all sorts of colors making them fit inside any type of household.
And finally, to maintain PVC resin, you need to…
Keep it out of direct sunlight and/ or heat. This is because like any type of plastic or rubber, they do have the tendency to melt. White PVC panes in particular also tend to be discolored when they get exposed to the sun for a long period of time. Lastly, in cleaning materials made out of PVC resin, no scrubbing or special chemical is actually required. You just need simple water, soap, a soft rag and that should do the trick.
